GWS small forward Bobby Hill has requested a trade to Collingwood, reports AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.

The 22-year-old asked for a trade to Essendon last year for family reasons, but the deal fell apart in the final stages of the trade period.

He’s now set to get to Victoria but on the other side of the Anzac Day rivalry, with the Magpies long the front-runner to secure his services.

Preliminary Final

GWS will ask for a second-round pick in return for Hill, according to the report. Collingwood does not own a second-round pick – they have pick 16, then 42, 47 and 48 in the third round – but could deal their future second.

Hill was the 24th pick in the 2018 national draft and has kicked 34 goals in 41 matches since debuting in his first AFL season.

He featured in the 2019 preliminary final win over Collingwood but was a hard-luck story as he missed selection for the Grand Final.

He then overcame testicular cancer in 2022 which required surgery at the start of June. He returned to training late in the year and made it back for the Giants’ final VFL game of the season.

Hill is expected to be joined by Billy Frampton and Dan McStay in making moves to the Magpies this off-season.
